MARIA XXX, 2010
Festival of Handel in “Neues Theater” (new theater) in Halle – Premiere: 8 of June 2010
Musik: Scarlatti, Inferno, Aria Con I’idea d’un bel gioire und CFM, Gesang: Daniel Ochoa, Tanz: Hong-Nguven Thai
The name Maria means the shrew. Being a Shrew – not fitting any image: dancers, musicians and singers act together and step on stage, regardless of their profession; as needy and passionate people, people at the mercy of others: they tremble, pray and fall into the Virgin of Mercy’s cloak of protection, which is used simultaneously as a bed sheet and as a fishing net. The play explores the guilt and innocence of our bodies, into which our present notion of the female was inscribed about 2000 years ago along with the concept of the Immaculate Conception. Pure and holy or full of relish and sinful – those who dare to watch may decide.
